It started with the hope found in a verse...
....He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
To comfort all who mourn...
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called Oaks of Righteousness,
[Taken from Isaiah 61:1-3. Emphasis Added]
How does it work?
Oaks Restorative Ranch combines the training of horses, with traditional "talking it out". People and horses learn how to communicate and build life skills through session exercises, and then we use the lessons learned in sessions as a gateway to deeper conversations in debrief. Because horses act as a mirror, clients can often view themselves in the horses they work with, and feel compassion and empathy for the horse's struggles. This empathy is the first step toward the client loving and embracing their own story. This, in turn, is the first step toward healing.
